Future Teachers Program

Shape the future of education right here at home.

The Future Teachers Program supports Wake County high school graduating seniors who plan to major in education and are committed to returning to teach in the Wake County Public School System. Through professional development and guaranteed job placement, this program helps students grow as future teachers.

Note: This is not a scholarship program. 

Who can apply?

What You’ll Gain

As a Future Teacher, you will receive:

  • A participation stipend at the conclusion of the annual Future Teachers summer professional learning conference, starting after your freshman year
  • A guaranteed teaching job in WCPSS once you graduate from college and earn your NC teaching license
  • Opportunities to build your professional network with WCPSS staff and peers

What We Expect From You

As a participant, you agree to:

  • Stay in good academic standing with your college or university
  • Participate in the required summer professional development each year, beginning after your freshman year
  • Remain in regular communication with Human Resources
  • Connect regularly with your WCPSS mentor and Future Teacher cohort
  • Teach in a WCPSS school for at least three years after completing your teacher preparation program
  • Meet all licensure and application requirements set by NC and WCPSS
