Ms. Emma Burcart

I am originally from Portland, Oregon, a city known for its connection to the outdoors. I grew up going on walks in Forest Park, where there are over thirty miles of trails shaded by giant trees, and taking trips to Cannon Beach to visit Haystack Rock. I went to college at University of Oregon in Eugene and am proud to be a Duck, though I am not into sports. I moved to Raleigh to see more sunshine, and have been here for ten years.
I have been teaching for about 18 years and have taught a variety of levels, from first grade to college. I spent three years teaching in Quito, Ecuador, as well as, having taught in Oregon and here in North Carolina.
Outside of school, I love to read, knit, write, and spend time with my family and friends. I also love to travel, especially during the summer.

Why I teach...

My favorite part of teaching is seeing the growth students make over a year. Those light-bulb moments when a student really gets a new idea or concept, and when they look back and see how far they have come, is really something special.
