ABOUT ME/MY FAMILY

My name is  Meryem Teke, an Instructional assistant at Smith Elementary School. I was born and raised in Turkey. I came to the U.S in 1993.  I studied history in college and did my masters in theology. I live in Garner. I am married and have two daughters and a cat, Misha. Family is very important to me. I have a small but well connected family. 

I like hiking, traveling and reading/watching personal development books/videos. I am particularly interested in mindful breathing and I practice it daily.

As an immigrant mother, my English was very limited when my kids were in elementary school. Therefore, I feel very connected to our immigrant kids and parents and I enjoy helping them out. I love our students and I care about their social emotional well-being as much as their academic strength.  My passion is encouraging our students to have a growth mindset in life and helping with their social and emotional development.

I am very happy to be part of our students' elementary school experience and it is an amazing  opportunity to see them grow.
