Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Melissa McElroy
I have been teaching in Wake County for 23 years. I have held many additional roles in the county including a district literacy trainer, a district curriculum writer for social studies, literacy, and RTA curriculum, Mentor Coordinator and Instructional Facilitator. In addition to my first love, teaching, I like to be outdoors and active.
I have two kiddos: my son, Brady, just left for The University of Tennessee for his Freshman year. He is in their Pre-law program. My daughter, RileyCate, is a Sophmore at Leesville High School. I grew up a military kid and lived in 17 places. I love to travel and see new things. I finally landed in New England for college at the University of New Hampshire where I played soccer. After graduation, I moved to Boston and took some graduate classes at Boston College, then graduated with my Master's certification from Rivier College in Nashua, NH. I am a HUGE sports fan-especially football-GO Patriots!!!! (and I guess Vols too since my son is at UT now).
I absolutely LOVE teaching. It is my true passion. I love to get new ideas and create innovative and fun lessons that meet every child's learning modality. I look forward to this upcoming year and getting to know all the students at MECME!
Why I am excited about our magnet theme...
Environmental connections excites me because our environment is the most important resource we have. Working at a magnet that focuses on Environmental connections, gives me the opportunity to help students understand how their decisions and actions affect the environment and ways we can take action to keep our environment healthy and sustainable for the future.
Why I teach...
Teaching is my passion!! I teach to help kids better understand themselves, others, the world and their place in it. I want to create opportunities for kids to use their understanding to make a positive impact on the world.
