Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Laura Cuany

I was born and raised in Wake County, and attended two Wake County schools (Briarcliff Elementary and Cary High School). I graduated from NC State University in 2015 but I'll never be done learning! This is my third year teaching, and I have been working with young children in various settings for the last 10 years. I believe that teaching does not just prepare our students for the future, but creates a safe and loving space for our students to be part of their community right now.

When I'm not at school, I spend my time with my son (born in 2022 at the same hospital as his mom and dad), my husband (also a Wake County native) and our two dogs. We enjoy taking advantage of all the wonderful things Raleigh has to offer, such as downtown restaurants, our Museum of Natural Sciences, great outdoor spaces like Horseshoe Farm Park, and the NC Museum of Art. I also enjoy crafts such as knitting, crochet, and sewing; reading when I get the chance; and working on a good puzzle.

Why I teach...

I teach because I want every child to know that they are valuable and capable of contributing to the world no matter what their grades look like. I want to nurture students who show up every day willing to try their best, work hard, and take care of those around them. I want to show them that they are loved and meet them right where they are, and that learning happens when we are all supporting each other to do our best.
