Degrees and Certifications:
Olive Chapel Elementary Administrative Intern
I am beyond excited to work with students, teachers, and families as an Administrative Intern at Olive Chapel this school year. This will mark my 15th year in education and my first year outside of the classroom. I was a middle school Language Arts teacher before arriving at Olive Chapel. For the past 9 years I’ve taught 8th grade right down the road at Mills Park Middle. Before that, I taught at Smithfield Middle School in my hometown of Smithfield, NC. Smithfield Middle also happens to be the school I went to as a middle school student. I attended UNC-Chapel Hill for undergrad and earned a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.
After college, I worked for a small publishing company before deciding to make the career change to education. That was one of the best decisions I ever made. Since then, I have earned a Master of Arts in Teaching Middle Grade Language Arts as well as my National Board Certification. I am currently back at UNC pursuing a Master’s degree in School Administration and will graduate in the Spring. My time in education has shown me the importance and necessity of strong school relationships, student voice, relevant curriculum, and equity in our learning spaces. I believe these are all factors for real, meaningful learning for all students, and I hope to support teachers as they provide these empowering learning experiences for kids.
Outside of school, I enjoy reading, watching movies, singing songs from Hamilton, following UNC sports (Go Heels!), and spending time with friends and family. I look forward to being a part of the Clipper family during the 2020-2021 school year.
