I hope this school messenger finds you well and safe.
Job well-done to our AFMS Parents, Teachers, and Students for completing our second week of Remote Learning! A big SHOUT OUT to the teachers who have shared videos for parents and students to help navigate Google Classroom during Remote Learning. Parents, please email your child’s teacher if you are having difficulties with this platform.
Happy Administrative Assistants week to, Mrs. Cabrera, Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. McDaniel, Mrs. Pearce, Mrs. Strepay, and Mrs. Swann. The amazing work these AFMS Charger Staff do behind the scenes keeps our school running and we want to say Thank you for all you do.
Last week was Media Specialist Week. We want to recognize and say thank you to Mrs. Cassidy, our AFMS Media Specialist. She is our Testing Coordinator, Battle of the Books Coach, and Young Adult Books Expert. We appreciate all she does to support staff and students.
May is Teacher Appreciation Month, and we’d like students and parents to send warm messages to our teachers to ensure the teachers know just how much they have helped our students learn, grow, and succeed! Thus, we are asking that students and parents create a FlipGrid video message no more than 1 minute long that we will share with teachers via Twitter. You can create as many video messages to as many teachers as you want! Please submit your messages by May 1st.
To complete your video(s):
Check out this Flipgrid!
- Tap the green plus to open the Flipgrid Camera. Log in with Google if you are asked.
- Record a short video
👋Say hello to the teacher you want to talk to!
🤩 Share why you appreciate/value this teacher.
- Submit your video! You’re done!

School Cancellation for the 19-20 School Year
While the Governor’s decision about school closing was not surprising, it was still shocking and disappointing to hear. We miss our students and we hoped that we would have another opportunity to engage with them face-to-face prior to summer break. We are especially sad for our 8th graders who will not have the opportunity to participate in events we plan, that is special for them, at the end of the year.
We have been in a holding pattern until we received additional information on school closing. Now that we have this information, we can begin to work through the many logistical questions around a number of items: How will 6th grade students get things left in lockers?, How we will give out yearbooks?, How we will return AFMS athletic sports gear (track, softball, soccer, etc.)?, How will we celebrate 8th graders?, How can I review and purchase spring pictures?, What do we do with the Chrome Books, etc. Please know that the AFMS team are working together to problem-solve these items and many more. We will communicate answers/plans with families through school messenger and our school website throughout the spring. We thank you in advance for your patience.
