Dear Charger Family,
I hope that you are all doing well in the midst of these unprecedented times. More than anything I want to assure you that we at AFMS will be here for you and together we will come out of this stronger than ever.
I realize that you may have many questions about what happens next. Rest assured that our District leadership is doing everything they can to advocate for all of us and are keeping us all updated with new information as often as they can. You can access all of the updates at this link: Coronavirus Updates.
Here are some of the highlights:
April 6 through April 13 remains designated as the school district’s traditional spring break.
Please note that lessons found on the WCPSS Remote Learning Resources website will not be graded. This is simply a place where you can find appropriate materials for your child that will supplement their learning while students are out of school.
If you are reading this on your phone and do not have home internet access, we encourage you to contact Spectrum Cable, which is offering 60 days of internet access for free. The number is 844-488-8395. Installation fees will be waived for new student households.
We ask that you please be considerate of your teacher’s personal situation. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted everyone’s life. Some, but not all teachers may be reaching out through google meets/ google hangouts to connect.
I don’t have more information than what you already receive from the District, but I just wanted to reach out to let you know that the AFMS staff is with you and look forward to seeing our kids when all this is behind us.
There is one thing that I would like to encourage your families to do. Let your children continue a practice that has become ingrained in our school: “Good Things.” We have found this to be a great way of connecting with each other, learning about each other and most importantly, a way to learn how to be grateful for the little things in life. I truly believe that now more than ever, this practice would be a great way for our kids to have something familiar to do each day and a good way for you to connect as a family.
We would also love to have your families join our staff in a Virtual Spirit Week:
Tweet in your pictures/videos to @AFMSChargers with our hashtag #ChargeOn or email Mrs. Olmstead at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will share out your participation. We hope this will bring a smile and positive energy to our community.
