Ms. Katie Dow
This is Ms. Dow's fifth year of teaching at Wiley. She grew up in New Hampshire, but has lived in Rhode Island, Arizona and New York. She has been living in Raleigh, NC for the last eight years.
She has a BA in Elementary Education and a BA in Art. She also has a two-year degree from Rhode Island School of Photography. Ms. Dow loves to travel! She has explored Canada, Italy, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Grand Cayman Islands, Aruba, and the Bahamas. She loves traveling and hopes to see many different countries in the future.
One of her passions is photography. Ms. Dow has been a professional photographer for over 20 years so she spends any of her free time taking pictures and observing the world. Her inspiration to become a teacher is her love of children and the thrill of exploring the world with them in the classroom.
Ms. Dow loves working at Wiley International Magnet Elementary School and empowering students to embrace global issues. She is passionate about the UN Sustainable Goal: End poverty in all its forms everywhere. According to the National Center for Education Statistics in 2014 there were approximately 20 percent of school-age children living in poverty in the United States. Ms. Dow strives as an educator to make sure that each of her students has sufficient clothing and food to eat. In the classroom, she teaches the children how to take action and think of ways they can end poverty throughout the world.
