Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Lux

Hi, My name is Mrs. Lux.  This is my 29th year in education and my 22nd year as a teacher.  I earned my Bachelors of Science degree from Central Michigan University, majoring in Childhood Development and minoring in Reading, in 1991.  In 2005, I went on to earn my Masters of Science degree from the University of Michigan in Science Education, adding a Science minor to my bachelor’s degree, as well.

I started my teaching career as a substitute teacher before obtaining a full-time position as a 5th grade teacher.  The last 10 years of my classroom teaching experience was spent teaching 7th and 8th graders Science.  I worked as the department head for our schools 1st through 8th grade science department and as a liaison between the Middle school and High school science departments.

At the end of the 2009-2010 school year, I decided to retire so that I could help out with my growing family.  I was the proud grandma of 3 grandchildren and enjoyed playing with them, plus 2 more for the next 7 years.  As they began attending school or lived several states away, I found myself longing to be back in the classroom.  In 2017, I headed back to the classroom to substitute teach.  It was at that time that I knew I had and have been doing exactly the career I was called to do.  I love being a teacher and children are my favorite people in the whole world.

This is my 3rd year working and subbing in NC.  This summer I applied for and received my NC teacher certificate making me a NC certified substitute teacher.  I am currently beginning my 3rd consecutive long term substitute teaching position here at YMES.  I am excited to be working with your 5th grader, several of whom I had the pleasure of working with last spring in the 4th grade as the long term substitute for Mrs. Sears.  YMES is a wonderful place to be and I couldn’t be happier to work with you and your children through December while Ms. Lafferty is out on leave.

Today I am the Mom of 3 adult sons and 7 grandchildren.  I’m married to a retired Police Sergeant, who is working his second career as a postman.  I love to sew, read, cook and travel.  Right now, I am enjoying 3 of them.  😉
