Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Steve Popson
I was born and raised in Durham. Both my parents were teachers, my mom a music teacher and my dad a PE teacher and coach (he was the last original faculty member at Jordan High School when he retired!). I earned a BS in Zoology from NC State University and worked at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh for 13 years. I then decided to follow in my parents' footsteps and become a teacher. I received my teaching certificate from William Peace University and have been teaching science for the past 4 years. I have a wonderful wife who is a 2nd grade teacher and an energetic 3 year old son.
What I love our Environmental Connections magnet theme...
The Environmental and Community Connections theme is SO important to our lives and future. Being able to work with our students to understand how we both depend on and impact the environment is very exciting. I know that working together we can develop students who are caring citizens that will change the world.
Why I like working with kids...
I enjoy taking a part in shaping better citizens for our world and future.
