Degrees and Certifications:
Hi, my name is Shannon Edmeads. I am the school nurse at Yates Mill Elementary for the 2019-2020 school year. I am a proud “boy mom” of two, ages 5 and 10. My boys keep me on my toes, to say the least.
I am originally from Tampa, FL and moved to NC for college many years ago. It may come as a surprise to know that nursing is my second career choice. I graduated from Elon University with a Bachelor’s degree in International Business, minoring in both Spanish and Economics. Shortly thereafter I decided that the business world was not my calling, and I attended the University of Virginia for my second Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. After nursing school I quickly became a Neonatal Intensive Care nurse in northern VA before finding my way back to North Carolina in 2007. I continue to work in Neonatal Intensive Care at Wake Med Raleigh, where I have been for 12 years now. I entered the area of school nursing in December of 2018. I have enjoyed every second of caring for elementary school children at various schools within the Southwestern region of Wake County. I enjoy offering and conducting small group lessons in the management of common childhood health concerns such as asthma, food allergies and juvenile diabetes, to list a few.
Outside of work I enjoy reading good books and taking on craft projects as time allows. Most weekends you can find me on the soccer field cheering on my two boys and/or playing the role of “Mom’s Taxi Service” all over Wake County.
