Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Program

  • Brier Creek is proud to be a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) School! We participate in the BYOD program because it aligns with our school's Mission, Vision, and Values. Technology is always used as a supplement to instruction and not a replacement for the high-quality, rigorous instruction provided by our teachers. 

    For a student to be allowed to bring his/her device to school, parents and students must first sign the WCPSS BYOD Contract found below and return it to school. Copies of this form are available in the front office or can be sent home with your student when you request your child's teacher to do so. Student devices must always be in plain view, used only when given explicit permission to do so, and be used in accordance with the contract. Permitted devices are laptops and tablets. Cell phones are not permitted to be used at school.  Smart Watches must be in Airplane Mode to disable text messages and phone calls to the device. The device is considered a cell phone unless it is in airplane mode.

    Sending a device to school with your child is NOT required or necessary for your child to learn and grow. If you do not wish for your child to bring his/her device to school, do not fret! When technology is required, teachers will provide devices for students to use. We have multiple Chromebooks, laptops, and tablets for students and teachers to use. 


    Regarding Technology, Board Policy 3225 Technology Responsible Use states: “Each principal may establish rules for his or her school site as to whether and how personal technology devices (including, but not limited to smart phones, tablets, laptops, etc.) may be used on campus. The school system assumes no responsibility for personal technology devices brought to school.

    "Students are expected to comply with the Code of Conduct and the applicable “Rules for Use of Technology Resources” set forth in this policy when students use a personal device on school property, at school sponsored events, on school-based transportation, or anytime a personal device is
    connected to school system technology resources. As an example, students using a personal device on school property, at school sponsored events, on school-based transportation, or when the device is connected to school system technology resources, shall not engage in creating, intentionally
    viewing, accessing, downloading, storing, printing or transmitting images, graphics (including still or moving pictures), sound files, text files, documents, messages or other material that is obscene, defamatory, profane, pornographic, harassing, or abusive.”


    GPS Devices: Parents who wish to place a GPS device on their child should contact their child's teacher or case manager for further guidance regarding how these devices may be used at school. GPS devices, or any listening devices, are not permitted to be sent to school with a child without the knowledge of school staff.
