    News from Mr. Warych

    November 26, 2018

I hope everyone had a relaxing Thanksgiving break with your families.  We have a busy 4 weeks coming up until Christmas Break.  Just a few things that are upcoming are the artist in residency program, biome projects, monologues, and our human growth and development lessons.

    Artist in Residence Program

Starting on Tuesday, November 27th through Thursday, November 29th, the fifth graders will be participating in an artist program.  The students will be making sculptures of birds from the deciduous forests, rainforest, and the grasslands.  Each class will be spending 60 minutes each day with our visiting artists to create a bird to add to our new outdoor display to be left as their fifth grade gift to Lead Mine Elementary.  Our class will be meeting each day from 9:00 to 10:00.  Don’t be late to school.  The artist will be coming back on December 4th and 5th finishing painting and adding final details during the same time.

    Overnight Field Trip News!!

If you have not sent back the permission slip or first payment and would like your child to attend, please contact a fifth grade teacher or me.  If you need any financial assistance, please let us know.  We want every child to have the opportunity to attend.

    Parent Conferences and Report Cards

Thank you to everyone that I have had the opportunity to meet with already.  It was great to sit down and talk about your child’s progress and their needs.

Units in Math, ELA, and Science

We will be continuing both units in math and science this week.  In science, we begin looking at each biome in more detail and how humans are affecting each.  Students will begin researching each on their own during reading rotations. They may work on their projects also at home if they wish to.  In math, we will be focusing on conversions in the metric system.  Also, they will need to be able to multiply and divide decimal numbers by 10, 100, and 1000. In ELA, students will be working in small groups to write and then perform a monologue based on an event from Esperanza Rising.
