Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Sara Cottrell
I am so excited to be a part of the Wiley family! I started at Wiley in 2018 after having taught seven years elsewhere. In the past, I’ve taught all subjects in fourth grade, including STEAM, and science in sixth grade. I earned both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Appalachian State and lived in the mountains for a number of years, but am originally from the Raleigh area. I’m a lover of the outdoors and enjoy a number of other hobbies; such as painting, reading, and spending time with my family and pet rabbit, Jasper. I also love going to museums, festivals, and Durham Bulls baseball games; trying new restaurants, and watching movies.
I chose to come to Wiley because I want to be part of the international studies magnet program, so I can encourage students to expand their horizons and be appreciative of all cultures. I also want students to be active participants in their learning and world, so they will continue to grow as individuals and members of the larger community. We may not always be able to afford to travel to all of the places we want to go due to time, or financial constraints, but I believe through education we can still experience the world and use the knowledge we gain to help others. I strongly believe that if all of this is to be accomplished, we must “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote life-long learning opportunities for all” as stated in the fourth UN Goal for Sustainable Development.
