Mrs. Leanne Lohr, AU1
Ms. Leanne was born in New Jersey and moved to Raleigh in June of 2016. She graduated from Marist College (NY) with a degree in special education, elementary education, and psychology. She is certified in elementary and special education in New York, New Jersey, and North Carolina (Grades K-6). Additionally, she recently received her Master’s degree in special education with a concentration in autism spectrum disorders (ASD). She has worked in many different public schools for students with ASD and related disabilities throughout her undergraduate and graduate years and is extremely passionate about teaching this population of learners.
Ms. Leanne is excited to begin her second year at MECME as an AUI teacher! In Ms. Leanne’s free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling, and hiking. She often travels back to New Jersey to visit her parents and sister. She feels privileged to have the opportunity to teach her students and to assist them in developing new skills throughout the year!
Why I teach...
I teach so that my students will become responsible, self-sufficient, kind, and responsible citizens. I teach so that one day my students will learn to accept and love others for their differences. I teach so that my students will grow to love learning as much as I do. I teach because I know that my students CAN and will achieve their goals and dreams. I teach to make a difference in others’ lives.
If I were a student here, I would be excited about...
I would be looking forward to the hands-on learning experiences, community events, and engaging lesson plans that the new year will bring.
