Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Austin Takacs
I grew up in Durham, and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2005 with a degree in journalism (go Tar Heels!). I also went to UNC-Charlotte for graduate school, and am dual certified in K-6 education and ESL (English as a Second Language).
I have two brothers, Jackson and Jeremy, and my parents still live nearby in Durham. I spent much of my twenties living in the Virgin Islands and also in Costa Rica, where I was TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certified and taught both children and adults to speak English. I absolutely loved living in both places, and try to visit my “homes away from home” as often as possible!
My husband, Matt, and I now live in Raleigh with our sweet little hound dog, Veda. We love to travel everywhere we can; some of our favorite adventures from the last few years include South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Taiwan, Cuba, and a road trip through the Yucatan Peninsula. I've also volunteered throughout Latin America and have been continuing to improve my Spanish skills. I love reading, being by the ocean, taking photographs, and of course, teaching! I believe that every child has the potential to do amazing things. I hope to instill a love of learning and a commitment to improving the world around us that will stay with them from their first day of school and throughout their lives.
Why I teach...
I teach because, not only do I love children, I also believe that each child has an individual potential to do amazing things. I want to help my students develop a love of learning and and a commitment to improving the world around us that will stay with them from the first day of kindergarten throughout their lives.
What I love about MECME...
I love the passion and love that our teachers have for each one of our students! We have a staff that is truly committed to doing what is best for our kids.
