Degrees and Certifications:
Kathy Zappia, MSW, LCSW was born and raised in Chicago, IL and graduated from Lewis University (Go Flyers!) with a B.A. in Elementary Education, minoring in P.E./Coaching.
She moved to Raleigh in 1982 after accepting a promotion in Sales Management. In 1987, Zappia made a career change going back to her education roots working with children in grades K-3. A few years later, she entered the MSW (Master of Social Work) program at UNC, with a focus in Mental Health/Child & Family, graduating in 1992.
Ms. Zappia worked as a therapist in the fields of Mental Health and Substance Abuse in Wake, Durham and Johnston Counties prior to her work with Wake County Schools.
She has been a School Social Worker and a member of the Phillips Phamily since 1994. Zappia’s commitment to serving the “whole child” is demonstrated in her family and community outreach, obtaining resources that promotes her students’ Academic Personal, Spiritual and Life success.
Zappia is currently serving the Phillips community as a member of the Leadership, Planning and MTSS teams. She is a member of several professional organizations, including NASW, NCSSWA, PENCE and NCAE, Student Services Division.
