Degrees and Certifications:
Mr. Katona Thomas-Briggs is a proud native of the All-American city of Fayetteville, North Carolina. He graduated from E.E. Smith Senior High School and the Math and Science Academy in 2006 as a North Carolina Academic Scholar. After graduation, he chose to further his education by attending North Carolina Central University (NCCU) in Durham to soar high with the Eagles living by the motto of “Truth and Service” and majored in Psychology. While a student at NCCU, he became very active in many campus activities including the Marching Sound Machine, where he was a member of the Percussion Section, the NCCU Student Government Association Senate, NCCU Student Judiciary Board, Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in the Social Sciences, and Phi Alpha Theta National History Honorary Society. He was also initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated in 2009 through the Gamma Beta Chapter at NCCU. Through this membership he became the university’s National Pan-Hellenic Council President. He graduated with a B.A. in Psychology in 2010.
Mr. Thomas currently resides in Raleigh, NC with his younger sister who is a student at Leesville Road High School. He has a White West Highland Terrier named Walter and will graduate with a degree in History from NCCU in 2017. At Mary E. Phillips High he serves as a Social Studies Teacher, advisor for the Phorce of Phillips Step Team, Senior Class Advisor, and a Goal Manager for the School Improvement Team. One quote that he lives by daily is “Everything is impossible until it’s done.”
