I grew up in Huntington, WV and graduated with an education degree from Marshall University in December of 1982. After teaching for a brief period of time, I took a job in retail management that eventually moved my wife and I here to the Raleigh area. We loved it so much here we decided to stay, even after I changed jobs. For the last 32 years we have enjoyed living here, and raising our 4 children (and now 2 grandchildren) here.
In January of 1999 I started the new year by returning to my passion - education. I taught Business Education for 10 years, and then, after graduating from NCSU with a Master of School Administration degree, I worked as an assistant principal, and then for the last five years as principal of Dillard Drive Elementary. While working as an assistant principal and principal, I continued my studies at NCSU and earned my Doctor of Education degree. I was excited to graduate with my doctorate on December 13, 2016 on the same day that my youngest son, Joshua, graduated from NCSU as well with his Bachelor's degree in Statistics.
In addition to spending time with our family, Carolyn and I love to spend time working with the children in our church. We both also like to read, and also enjoy traveling to different places in NC. Some of our favorite places to visit include Ocracoke Island on the outer banks, and Chimney Rock in the mountains. We like calling North Carolina home!
