Apex High School Student/Parent BYOD Agreement
Apex High School is excited to announce that we are part of the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) initiative. We are encouraging students to bring their own technology devices to the classroom to enhance their learning experiences. Teachers have the option to immediately or gradually incorporate BYOD in their lesson planning. This document is a contract governing the establishment of this new program at Apex HS. Please note that students who cannot bring outside technology will be able to utilize the school’s equipment. No student will be left out of classroom instruction.
Definition of “Device”:
For purposes of BYOD, “device” means a privately-owned wireless and/or portable electronic hand- held equipment that includes, but is not limited to, smartphones, portable internet devices, handheld entertainment systems, or portable information technology systems that can be used for word processing, wireless internet access (laptop/tablet), etc.
Security and Damages:
Responsibility for the security of the device resides with the individual student. Apex HS is not liable for any device stolen or damaged on campus. If a device is stolen or damaged, it will be handled through the administrative office similar to other personal artifacts that are impacted in similar situations. We highly recommended that skins (decals) and other custom touches are used to physically identify your device from others. Additionally, protective cases for technology are encouraged.
Students participating in BYOD will be given access to the WCPSS BYOD wifi. WCPSS BYOD wifi may only be accessed while on campus. Students are expected to adhere to the following WCPSS BYOD Guidelines: No Touch (teachers and other students may not touch devices), Access WCPSS BYOD Wifi only (no 3G or 4G service), no printing at school, and must have and use a WCPSS email account.
WCPSS Board Policy 3225 - Technology Responsible Use:
This policy governs the use of WCPSS electronic information resources and defines students' proper conduct and responsibilities while using WCPSS electronic information resources. View the entire policy at: http://www.wcpss.net/Page/12842.
BYOD Student/Parent Agreement:
Students and parents/guardians participating in BYOD must adhere to the Student Code of Conduct, as well as all Board policies, particularly 3225. Furthermore, the student must agree to the following conditions outlined in the Apex HS BYOD Agreement.
