This month is Black History Month. In honor of, here is a little known black history fact. Did you guys know that 2 black men by the names of Garrett Morgan and J.P. Knight invented the traffic light, in 1923. An invention that is crucial to society today. There wukk be a BSA meeting this Friday, B lunch.

Congratulations to the Varsity girls basketball team on an outstanding season. The Varsity finished with an overall record of 17-8 and set a standard for future GBB teams to follow. They have a lot to be proud of. Thanks to the Baseball team for coming out in numbers to support the team, as well as many other students and staff.
For those attending state competition with a written plan, be sure to sign up to practice your presentation during lunch in Mr. Jackson's room. The sign up is posted on the DECA Gooble classroom. Also, if you are competing in a role play at state competition, remember to go to Mr. Gilbert or Mr. Jackson's room during lunch to take your test.
The next AFHS Book Club Meeting is Thursday in the Cube during B Lunch. We'll finally be discussing realistic fiction choices. All are welcome to attend.

Christina Modica will be attending UNC Charlotte and Emily Keefe will be attending NC State University.
We also had our first student who will be attending a school out of state: Chase Parsons will be attending Pace University in NYC!
Chase also brought in a scholarship letter that pushed us over the $2 million mark!

Today, Our CTE student spotlight belongs to a team of seniors that stand out from the rest. Devon Jackson, Valentine Vaillant and Daniel Wellish. Each of them have completed two CTE pathways in their time at Apex Friendship and have successfully completed the WorKkeys assessment. What is most appealing to these experienced learners is the journey of the imaginative learning experience of developing a quality product. One sees these individual’s brilliance in the results of their independent and group projects developed in subjects that demand exceptional intellect combined with creativity and communication. Their GPA’s reflect this persistence, creativity, and work ethic that they bring to all of their classes at Apex Friendship.

Testing will end on the 28th, so don't wait until the last minute! Those attending state competition with a written plan, if you would like to rehearse your presentation and get feedback from the officers, sign up to present in Mr. Jackson's room on Wednesdays, during lunch. Do you wanna play in AFHS's first, inaugural Ultimate season? It still is possible, but this is the last week that sign up is happening. Come by Mr. Sica's room, 3221B, before Friday if you are interested in playing. AFHS Ultimate Frisbee players, remember practice is today, at 3:30.

It's February and you know what that meants! It's CTE month! Did you know that for students who concentrate their studies into CTE programs and courses, around 93! of these students graduate. Also, 91% of high school graduates who have 2-3 CTE credits enrolled into college and move on to the next level. Career and Technical Education is evalving, and we want you to be a part of it!

This Saturday our first ever Science Olympiad team competed in the Raleigh Regional tournament! 15 students represented AFHS and brought home medals in seven events including 2 first place finishes! Dedeepya Madineni, Srikant Vasudevan, and Srinath Vasudevan will move on to the state competition in their events.
