Required Reading Homework

  • Reading(required) – Each night your child needs to read 1 take home book.  Feel free to read it multiple times. We recommend also: Identifying the front cover, back cover, and title of the book. Find spaces between the words and explain why we use spaces. Find the beginning and end of a sentence. Identify 1 word, 2 words, 1 sentence, 2 sentences. Find a capital and lowercase letters. Identifying a period and it’s purpose. Point to each word as they read. Use picture support to read words. Retell the book’s main events in order.  After reading the select books throughout the week, we ask for you to please log in your child’s agenda the book title and your signature on every Friday.  We will check it and exchange books every Friday to return home to you on Monday in the velcro pocket folder.

Sight words(required) - Practice writing and reading the sight words of the week.  We recommend having your child tell a sentence using each sight word to a grown up and record the sentence in a notebook that you keep at home.  Some other ways to incorporate sight words is using magnetic letters, dry erase boards, sight word puzzles, flash cards, or even using a device! (iPad, Kindle, computer, etc.)
