Author Kate Allen visited Leesville Road Middle on April 24, 2019.  Ms. Allen was on a book tour promoting the release of her debut novel, The Line Tender.  Ms. Allen challenged the students to think about things that they are interested in and to pursue information about it - that is what she did with this book as she learned about Great White Sharks.  Thank to Quail Ridge Books for providing our students this amazing opportunity.

Authors Ally Condie and Brendan Reichs visited 7th graders at Leesville Road Middle on Friday, October 5, 2018.  Their book The Darkdeep was released on October 2, 2018.  The students were engaged in the authors presentation that included a book trailer and quiz questions that helped determine which of the main characters you were most like.  Do you dare to go into the Darkdeep?  This is the first book in a trilogy.  Come check out a copy!  As always, my greatest gratitude to the wonderful staff at Quail Ridge Book for allowing us to host authors.  

Author Monika Schroeder visited the Raising Readers Book Club on March 8, 2018.  Her book, Saraswati's Way, was read by students and parents during second quarter.  The club is sponsored by our literacy coach, Mrs. Kaulfuss.  It meets four times a year.  Parents, teachers and students spend the hour sharing about the book they have read.  We were honored to have the author attend and participate in this book club meeting thanks to the generosity of our wonderful PTSA.  Because the setting of the book was in India, Mrs. Nelson got some samosas, chutney, and naan bread to add to the experience.  Thank you again to Mrs. Schroeder for coming to our book club.  

Author Scott Reintgen visited Leesville Road Middle School 8th Graders on Tuesday, March 6th during lunch.  “If I offered you millions of dollars to go to space, would you?” he asked.  The answers were an overwhelming "YES."  Mr. Reintgen was visiting to talk about the first book in his trilogy Nyxia.  A former High School Creative writing teacher, Reintgen spent the hour answering the questions of the highly engaged audience.  Thank you to Quail Ridge Books for sposoring another wonderful author visit.  

New York Times best selling author Mike Lupica visited LRMS 6th Graders on September 15, 2017.  He was on a book tour to promote his book Lone Stars.  Thank you to Quail Ridge Books for this amazing opportunity.  

Author Tania Del Rio and Illustrator Will Staehle visited LRMS on Tuesday, March 21, 2017.  They were on tour promoting the second book in the Warren the 13th Series Whispering Woods.  Sixth and 8th grade art students enjoyed seeing how the author and illustrator worked together on these fun novels. Our LRMS art students shared art they had created based on the books with the authors.  Thank you to Quail Ridge Books for this amazing opportunity for Leesville Middle Students.   

Author Laurie Halse Anderson visited Leesville Road Middle School on October 20, 2016 to promote the third book in her Seeds of America Series entitled Ashes.    Eighth grade students listened intently to Ms. Anderson share about how she writes her historical thrillers and all of the work that she puts into the research for the books.  The students were excited to get to ask Ms. Anderson questions about the characters and the writing process.  Thanks to Quail Ridge Books for providing this opportunity to our students.

Author Rick Yancey was at Barnes & Noble Brier Creek on Thursday, May 26th as part of the LRMS in Store Book Fair.  He was promoting the third book in the Fifth Wave Series entitled The Last Star.    

Author JA White visited LRMS on February 23, 2016.  He was promoting the third book in his Thickety Series titled The Thickety: Well of Witches. Students in 7th Grade were invited to the event.  Thanks to Quail Ridge Books for this amazing opportunity.

Local author, John Choquette, visited LRMS 6th Graders on December 17, 2015 to promote his book series entitled Burlwood Forest.  Mr. Choquette is a graduate of WCPSS schools and UNC Chapel Hill.  Meeting a local author was a great experience for our students.
