Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Jamie Maye
My name is Jamie Maye and I'm very excited to be teaching at Laurel Park Elementary School. I look forward to getting to know all of the families and students this year. Here is a little background information so you can get to know me.
I grew up in Charlotte, NC with my sister, mother and father. My mother was teacher and my father is a business owner. My parents divide their time between Mint Hill, NC and Cherry Grove, SC. My sister has been teaching for almost twenty years and is currently living in Mooresville, NC with her husband and is teaching 5th grade in Huntersville, NC. After graduating high school I went to East Carolina University where my sister was already attending college. In 1999, I graduated with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and minor in Early Childhood Relations, then graduated a year later with my Masters in Reading Education. I began my teaching career in Charlotte at a Title 1 school teaching first grade. I ended my teaching career in Charlotte Mecklenburg with teaching experience in grades 1st-5th.
I moved to Raleigh in 2008, and was lucky to start my teaching career in third grade the year Laurel Park Elementary opened I've been a proud penguin ever since. I earned my National Board Certification in 2010. Over the past six years, I have enjoyed judging at the regional and state level at Odyssey of the Mind Tournaments. This prompted my decision to go back to graduate school in 2013, to receive my AIG licensure from Wingate College. In November of 2014, I changed roles from a third grade teacher into the school's Academically and Intellectually Gifted Teacher.
When I'm not teaching I love to craft (re-purpose anything), hang out with family and friends, decorate and redecorate:) and shop on a budget.
