Ms. Jamie Maye

Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Jamie Maye

My name is Jamie Maye and I'm very excited to be teaching at Laurel Park Elementary School. I look forward to getting to know all of the families and students this year.   Here is a little background information so you can get to know me.

I grew up in Charlotte, NC with my sister, mother and father. After graduating high school I went to East Carolina University for my undergraduate and graduate degrees. In 1999, I graduated with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and minor in Early Childhood and Family Relations.  A year later I graduated with my Masters in Reading Education. I began my teaching career in Charlotte at a Title 1 school teaching first grade. I ended my teaching career in Charlotte Mecklenburg with teaching experience in grades 1st-5th.

I moved to Raleigh in 2008, and was lucky to start my teaching career in third grade the year Laurel Park Elementary opened I've been a proud penguin ever since. I earned my National Board Certification in 2010 and will be renewing it this year. Over the years I have enjoyed judging at the regional and state level at Odyssey of the Mind Tournaments. This prompted my decision to go back to graduate school in 2013, to receive my AIG licensure from Wingate College. I have been honored to teach Academically and Intellectually Gifted students at Laurel Park Elementary the past four years.

I’m excited to return to the regular classroom and teach third grade again.  I have missed having the close “family” relationships that are formed with students and parents when you are with the same students all day, every day.
