Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Nancy Haight

I’m Nancy Haight and I’m proud to be a part of the Laurel Park Team. Even though I grew up in the Garden State of New Jersey I have always loved the south. In 1991 I graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Mathematics and in 1992 with an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction. My husband Jonathan and I met in college at a campus club meeting and valued the organization so much that we worked with them after graduation at Penn State and in West Chester, Pennsylvania for the next 18 years. During that time we had 3 children, Jessica, Nathaniel, and Joshua. Even though I didn’t teach in public schools during that time, I used my teaching skills and degree with college students’ studies and enjoyed other aspects of my job doing brochure and display design, fund development, conference planning, and informational services. As our last child entered school, I got back into teaching by working as a substitute teacher in Chester County, Pennsylvania for students age 3-21. When that chapter of career life came to a close we moved down to Cary, North Carolina to be near family and new work. Throughout my life I have always loved working with young children and serving in Sunday school. When we moved to Cary I was looking for work that would allow me to be off during track outs as our children were in the year round schools of Salem Middle and Laurel Park Elementary. After volunteering in our youngest son’s class I got a job as an instructional assistant in first grade. Working in elementary school was where I was meant to be! While working as an instructional assistant I studied and took the Elementary and Middle School Math Praxis Exams for teaching and applied for certification. The 2015-2016 school year was my first year teaching and I taught first grade and loved it. This 2016-2017 school year will be my second year teaching and I am excited that I get to teach third grade. It was one of the most memorable years in school. I love change and learning new things. Even though math and science were my favorite subjects, I had the most amazing English teacher who ignited a passion for British literature and all literature and poetry within me. L.M. Montgomery, Jane Austen, and Laura Ingalls Wilder are my favorite authors and all books to me are like uncharted lands. There is always something new to discover. It is wonderful to share this love of math, science, and reading with students. Some of my other interests include spending time with family and friends, gardening, swimming, biking, and hanging out at the beach. We love to play board games like Settlers of Catan, Yahtzee, and Blokus. Please contact me if you have any questions or if I can help you or your child in any way!
