United States Army National GuardThe Guard dates back to 1636, when citizen-soldiers formed militias to defend community and country – and for 380 years, the Guard has stayed true to its roots.
Physical and mental toughness are just the basic requirements. To join the Guard without prior service, you must meet these mandatory requirements:
- Between the ages of 17 and 35,
- Be a US citizen or permanent resident;
- Be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or GED; and
- Meet medical, physical, and moral requirements.
