Second Grade Team

  • Mrs. Amanda Castaneda

I've been a teacher here at Penny Road for twenty years! I'm an Apex-native, who graduated from UNC-Greensboro in 2000. I've taught first and second grade during my years of teaching. When you walk in my class, the environment promotes fun, growth, and a sense of family. I was inspired by my own first-grade teacher to pursue teaching. I've been married for 18 years and we have a son, Nathan, who's in eighth grade. I enjoy cooking, traveling, game nights, and watching football!

    Miss Kate Peacock

Ms. Peacock graduated from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, and moved to teach in North Carolina in 2016. Since then she has been teaching at Penny Road Elementary. In her spare time, Miss Peacock loves traveling, hiking, and going to the movies!

    Mrs. Pam Rogers

I love working at Penny Road and getting to know the families in my class. Teaching is my passion and I love what I do. I have been teaching at Penny Road for 23 years! I firmly believe that parents and teachers need to work together in order to have a successful school year.

When I am not teaching, I am taking a workout class or a yoga class.  I have a son, Jack who is a lacrosse goalie at Guilford college. I absolutely love to go to his games. This is my favorite thing to do. I also love the ocean, exploring new places, going to the theatre and museums, and cooking.

    Mrs. Jenn Zawis

Mrs. Zawis was born and raised in New York City.  She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Florida, and a graduate degree from Marymount University.   Mrs. Zawis is a huge Florida Gator fan!   This will be her 17th year teaching.  Teaching is her passion, and she considers herself a lifelong learner.  Mrs. Zawis loves spending time with her husband and three children, and enjoys reading, hiking, and running.

Mrs. Zawis is so happy to be a Penny Road Panda!

Ms. Catherine Jackson - Instructional Assistant

Ms. Jackson is originally from Illinois but grew up in the Wake County Public School System from elementary to high school. She attended George Mason University and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Integrative Studies with a concentration in Language Arts for Education and a minor in Linguistics. Outside of work she loves running, reading, and watching movies.
