I started my teaching career at Oak Grove as a Kindergarten teacher in 1994 when the school first opened! Through the years, I also ended up teaching 2nd and 4th grades here at Oak Grove before deciding to take a different career path as a dental assistant in 2001. It wasn’t long before I realized that “teaching” was where I belonged, so I returned to WCPSS in 2003 as a 3rd grade teacher at Adams Elementary School. In 2004, I was so happy to return to my “home” at Oak Grove as a 1st grade teacher. In 2006 I was able to move up with one of my 1st grade classes to 2nd grade and be their teacher for two years in a row! 2nd grade was one of my favorite grade levels to teach! In 2008, I left Oak Grove with a former principal to open a new school in Apex called Laurel Park Elementary. I loved teaching 2nd grade at Laurel Park, but couldn’t turn down the opportunity in 2011 to return to Oak Grove, once again, as a reading intervention teacher. It only seems fitting that now I am back “home” and my daughter is now an “otter” too! Today, I am a K-2 Literacy Coach and a K-5 Reading Intervention Teacher. I am lucky enough to spend everyday supporting teachers with their reading instruction and teaching children how to read! When I’m not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband and kids, Hailey (9) and Hunter (4) or teaching Zumba to kids and adults. Oak Grove has such a special place in my heart. The halls hold a lot of memories for me and I am so proud to be an “otter”!
