Math Resources
Second Grade
These Math resources are recommended by the NC Department of Public Instruction. The week-by-week essentials can be used to enhance students’ learning of grade-level standards.
Useful Tips:
- Choose from a menu of activities, problems, and games that encourage problem solving and communication about mathematics.
- Week-by-Week Essentials increase in difficulty throughout the year but the activities do not have to be completed in any particular order.
- Consider following the weeks as close as possible to your child's school calendar while still choosing tasks that motivate students to become better problem-solvers and increase mathematical fluency.

Reading
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to utilize the lists that are developmentally appropriate for their children. Research shows that reading aloud and shared reading are vital components of balanced literacy, aiding in the development of independent reading. Further, the ability to choose a book of interest plays an important role in fostering success with reading. So let your child select a book and enjoy your reading time together!
