Middle School Learning Resources
Reading and Literacy Resources
The Wake County Library website includes recommended booklists by grade and reading level from Pre-K to seventh grade.
The "Find a Book" website uses Lexile scores to help parents and students find books at appropriate reading levels. Our state has linked end-of-grade reading comprehension test scores to Lexiles. This means that, on the student report that is sent home to parents, a Lexile measure is given. Whether students are reading for school or pleasure, they can use this site to build a custom reading list on the subjects that interest them the most.
Learning Beyond the Classroom has activities and resources to help children and teens explore reading and writing after school, during vacations, or all summer long.http://www.readwritethink.org/beyondtheclassroom/summer/

Math Resources
These Math resources are recommended by the NC Department of Public Instruction. The week-by-week essentials can be used to enhance students’ learning of grade-level standards.
Useful Tips:
- Choose from a menu of activities, problems, and games that encourage problem solving and communication about mathematics.
- Week-by-Week Essentials increase in difficulty throughout the year but the activities do not have to be completed in any particular order.
- Consider following the weeks as close as possible to your child's school calendar while still choosing tasks that motivate students to become better problem-solvers and increase mathematical fluency.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to view these PDF files. You can get the Adobe Reader here.
