In order for teachers to meet regularly to collaborate and discuss ways to improve individual student academic performance, the 2009-10 bell schedule provides weekly one hour early dismissal on Wednesdays for all students. On six of those Wednesdays, schools will release 2.5 hours early. Schools will continue to use the six 2.5 hour sessions for school-wide faculty professional development.

Child Care and Transportation Options
Child Care
WCPSS schools with established After School Programs now have the ability to offer an after school program on Wednesday. This is in place to support parents needing childcare on Wednesdays only. The Wednesday-Only Program is not a drop-in program. Parents must enroll for the year to take advantage of childcare on all Wednesdays. The program cost includes all Wednesdays in the 2009-2010 school calendar, including the six Early Release Days.

Transportation
Parents can request service to an after school provider for the duration of the school year, and not for one-time use. Service to or from Before and After School Care providers may be provided when specific criteria are met:
- The provider must be located in the base attendance or application draw area of the student’s school
- Seating space must be available on the bus
- Provider must be located along an existing established school bus run
- Must be of no additional cost
- Must not be in the designated walk zone
- Buses cannot enter day care or after school care center property, which is considered private property
