Volunteering a Good Way to Support Schools
Who To Contact

The Wake County Public School System is committed to keeping the focus on learning and teaching during these challenging economic times.
WCPSS leadership began preparing for a tough budget year months in advance by taking a number of proactive steps that would help position the school system for the uncertain times ahead. However with cuts in both local and state funding, our schools began the 2009-10 academic year with less funding, fewer teachers and staff, an elimination of some programs and the possibility of larger class sizes.
Although our school system received less local funding than last year, our school population continues to grow. This year, three new schools opened and approximately 1,900 new students enrolled in our schools.
School volunteers are always an important resource, and they are especially helpful during these times of limited resources. Many schools utilize volunteers to help students improve their reading, writing and math skills. People who want to help children will find many ways to volunteer in the schools. They may help in the classroom, on the practice field, in the office, in the library or in the computer lab.
Our teachers, principals and staff are working very hard to support students, and we hope parents and other members of the Wake County community will find new ways to stay involved and partner with us as we help every child graduate on time, prepared for the future.
