Wake Students Continue High Level of Performance on State Testing
June 24, 2004 - In the baseline year for Goal 2008, the percent of student scores remained steady for the state's End-of-Course high school testing and End-of-Grade elementary and middle school testing.

For the second year in a row, nearly 83 percent of Wake County high school students scored at Levels III or IV on the EOC and 91 percent of Wake County elementary and middle school students scored at Levels III or IV on the EOG.


2004-05 Parent & Student Handbooks Now Available
The Parent & Student handbooks are valuable reference materials containing information about student assignment, school disciplinary policies, promotion and graduation requirements, testing schedules and more. Handbooks are available in English and Spanish.

WCPSS Distributes Emergency Supplies To Teachers
June 16, 2004 - Teachers at new WCPSS schools will soon receive emergency kits filled with supplies for their classrooms, part of the WCPSS Security Department's crisis response plan for the 113,000 students expected for 2004-2005.

Workshops Offer Teachers a Jump Start On New Math Program
June 16, 2004 - For the second time this summer, more than 150 WCPSS elementary school teachers have given up a week of their vacation to voluntarily participate in workshops at Enloe High School to better prepare to use the new Math Trailblazers curriculum next school year.

Eleven WCPSS Employees Recognized with Employee Excellence Awards

After 30 Years of Service, Hunt Says Goodbye
After serving the school system for 30 years, Elaine Hunt, Child Nutrition Services senior director, said goodbye Friday, May 28, 2004. Hunt's strong commitment to staff, training and technology helped raise Wake County's nutrition program to a model statewide.

WCPSS Graduates More Than 6,200 Students
May 25, 2004 - The Wake County Public School System will award diplomas to 6,200 students in 16 ceremonies that begin Friday and continue through Sunday. Most of the students will continue their education in college, while others will enlist in the military or join the workforce.

Combs Elementary Offers Support to Oprah's South African Leadership Academy
May 25, 2004 - Inspired by Oprah Winfrey’s plan to establish a leadership academy for girls in South Africa, students at Combs Elementary have begun studying South Africa to determine the best way they can help.

Wake Students Earn National Merit $2,500 Scholarships
May 20, 2004 - Thirteen graduating high school seniors from the Wake County Public School System have earned National Merit $2,500 Scholarships.

May 20, 2004 - The top students in Wake County high schools sat down with Board of Education members and school administrators to talk about their years in school and their futures at the annual Valedictorian Luncheon held May 18 at the N.C. State University Faculty Club.

Davis Drive Middle Teacher is Wake County Teacher of the Year
May 13, 2004 - Davis Drive Middle School teacher Marcella Cox is the 2003-2004 Wake County Teacher of the Year. Superintendent Bill McNeal presented Cox the Wake County Teacher of the Year Award sponsored by Wachovia Bank at tonight's banquet. McNeal praised Cox for earning the school system's highest honor. She was applauded by hundreds of community and education leaders attending the event.
