Focus On Learning And Teaching
The Wake County Public School System’s core business is learning and teaching. We are charged with providing each child in our school system with a sound, basic education. Focusing upon the results – or learning – supports our purposeful change into a learning organization for the current century. WCPSS is a school system that constantly relies on data, our community, outside experts, and parents and business volunteers to continuously improve our school system. This will help us realize our vision of having all students graduate on time, prepared for the future.
Wake County students continue to demonstrate high academic performance; however, recent changes in the state’s End-of-Grade mathematics assessments have indicated the need for improvement in all North Carolina districts, including WCPSS. The State Board of Education has also adopted new goals for school districts in line with its "21st century" vision. In light of these changes, and conscious of accelerating globalization and technological change, the Wake County Board of Education authorized the comprehensive independent curriculum management audit in 2007. The audit is a tool to help chart our course for the future.
