365-Day Suspension

suspension from school, school activities, and school grounds for 365 calendar days from date of incident

Advocate

a person who may represent/presents the student's case

Assault Resulting in Serious Injury

An intentional physical attack causing the victim obvious severe or aggravated bodily injury involving a broken bone (s), loss of teeth, possible internal injuries; severe lacerations and bleeding or loss of consciousness; And/or requiring emergency medical services by trained school personnel or other health professional (e.g. EMS) and/or hospitalization.

Board

Wake County Board of Education

Expulsion

permanent exclusion from the Wake County Public School System beyond the end of the school year

Long-Term Suspension

suspension from school, school activities, and school grounds for the remainder of the year.

Parent

natural parent, legal guardian, or person serving in loco parentis

Possession

having the power or intent to control a prohibited item and shall include, but is not necessarily limited to the possession of a prohibited item in a student's automobile, locker, book-bag, or desk, or on a student's person.

Principal

the school principal or any school professional to whom the principal may officially delegate authority

School Days

the days school is in session, unless otherwise noted.

School Property

any property owned used, or leased by the Board of Education, including school buses, other vehicles, and school bus stops

Short-Term Suspension

suspension from school, school activities, and school grounds for a period of ten (10) school days or less

Student

any person attending any school of the Wake County Public School System

Suspension Length

the number of days a student is suspended from school

Witness

a person called to testify to provide information directly relevant to the incident resulting in long-term suspension recommendation
