Information For Principals, Media Specialists, and Teachers

You will find many options for sharing information with your students about Disability History and Awareness month.

Please look the information provided and see what options best match your class and learning objectives. Perhaps you only want to use resources in the, "Hands on Activities" folder. You may want to use a lesson plan provided for your building level. You might want to use the classroom vignettes provided to discuss some of the famous people with disabilities and how they've contributed to our community and world. You are encouraged to use one or more of the resources found within these links. Each link provides resources for all building levels to support Disability History and Awareness month. There is not an expectation that all resources would be used by a teacher. Special Education Services wanted to provide choice to teachers and administrators as they seek to share information with all students about Disability History and Awareness month.

Principals may wish to share the brief PowerPoint for their faculty to explain what is, "Disability History and Awareness" month and what resources are provided for adhering to Senate Bill 753. Senate Bill 753 was signed into law in July 2007 to ensure that all students are provided rich and meaningful learning opportunities about people with disabilities.

Special Education Services (SES) thanks you for this opportunity to serve schools by providing these resources. We look forward to schools joining SES in October, making the time to celebrate the contributions of people with disabilities.
