Principal's Weekly Message: 8/25/17
Posted by Scott Lyons on 8/25/2017 3:30:00 PM
Monday, August 28 is the first day of school for all students. Freshmen, sophomores and juniors should report to their advisory classrooms to receive their final schedule. Any schedule received prior to Monday should be discarded. If your child has not submitted a technology permission and military disclosure form, he or she will bring one home, which should be completed. Privacy release forms are also available if you desire to complete one.
Seniors planning to participate in the annual senior parade are reminded to meet at Richland Creek Community Church at 6:30am to prepare for line up and to depart for campus by 6:45am. All seniors should report to the loading dock in the rear of the school to check in with your advisory teacher, get your schedule and enjoy senior breakfast before heading to first period.
Morning carpool is located in the back student parking lot. When dropping students off, please pull up as far as possible to allow more vehicles to pull in. When exiting the morning carpool proceed around the building. If exiting left, proceed through bus loop to the light to make left turn. If exiting right, exit through bus loop making a right onto Forestville Rd. The earliest a student can be dropped off is 6:55 am.
Afternoon Pick up/Carpool is located in the front staff parking lot. When picking up students, please pull up as far as possible to allow more vehicles to pull in.
Parents, we ask that you have conversation with your teens who have parking permits and off campus passes about making good decisions. Honoring speed limits, practicing safe driving, and obeying school parking off campus guidelines are a must in order to keep these privileges.
Bus assignments are located in Power School under Transportation. Also, the WCPSS website has all the Heritage HS routes and approximate times. Click Transportation, Bus Routes, Heritage HS. If students know their Route #, we can direct them to their bus at dismissal. Administrators will be available in the cafeteria during all three lunches for transportation questions.
If you have not requested Transportation services as of today, you will need to request it on the WCPSS site under Transportation. If there is room on the bus, a temporary pass may be issued by the school. If the bus is at capacity, Transportation will notify you when the student has been assigned to the bus. You will need to provide transportation in that case until a permanent assignment has been made. For bus questions, please call 919-805-3030 or fill out a customer service request on the WCPSS Transportation Website.
Course change requests continue until Friday, September 1. Because most electives are filled, do expect for many requests to be denied. Students can see a counselor during lunch to discuss a request already submitted. Students are expected to follow their schedule while waiting for a reply.
Registration for the October PSAT also begins on Monday. This is a highly valuable college planning evaluation that provides students access to My College Quickstart, Khan Academy for SAT prep and gives an indicator of potential Advanced Placement courses to take. Juniors are encouraged to take the test for National Merit, National Achievement and National Hispanic Scholarship competitions. Registration fee is $15; however, juniors with at least a 4.5625 test for free. Fee waivers are available for freshmen, sophomores and juniors meeting eligibility criteria. All interested students must register by September 15 in Student Services, before school or during lunch. You may also pay the registration through online payments on the Heritage High website. Students needing testing accommodations should stop by Student Services to begin the application process.
I look forward to seeing all students on Monday and to a great year ahead.
