Principal's Message - November 2, 2016
Posted by Elaine Hofmann on 11/2/2016
Good afternoon Spartan Family! This is Elaine Hofmann, principal of Salem Middle School with several updates and reminders.
Come on out and support our football team as they take on Davis Drive Middle tomorrow night, yes that’s right, our boys are playing under the lights at Green Hope High School Thursday night. Game time is 6:30 pm and admission is $5.
There will be a girl’s and boy’s basketball tryout informational meeting this Friday morning at 7:45 in the auditorium. If you are unable to attend this meeting, please see Coach Purvis for the tryout information. All of this information will be on the Salem Middle School website. The official first day of tryouts is Tuesday, Nov. 15th.
Just a reminder that next Tuesday, Nov 8 - Election Day is a 2 hr delay for all Wake County Schools. Our school day will be at 10:15. Not only will it be an exciting day for our nation, it will be an exciting day for our school...each student will have the opportunity to exercise their civic duty by participating in a Salem Middle School election. We will be voting for President/Vice President, US Senate, NC Governor, NC Lieutenant Governor, NC Attorney General, and NC Superintendent of Public Instruction. We are encouraging all of our students to research the candidates and make some informed voting choices next Tuesday. Let’s see how Salem does in predicting the outcome of the national elections!
Keep up with all of the great things our students are doing everyday by checking out the Salem Middle School website, the Salem Twitter page by following @SalemPrincipal or searching #SalemProud, the PTA newsletter and the PTA’s new Facebook page.
Veteran’s Day holiday is Friday, November 11th. There is no school on that day!
Here’s my Growth Mindset wisdom: “Parents think they can hand children permanent confidence—like a gift—by praising their brains and talent. It doesn’t work, and in fact has the opposite effect. It makes children doubt themselves as soon as anything is hard or anything goes wrong. If parents want to give their children a gift, the best thing they can do is to teach their children to love challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort, and keep on learning. That way, their children don’t have to be slaves of praise. They will have a lifelong way to build and repair their own confidence.”
That is all I have for now. As we tell our students everyday, Work Hard Spartans, Be Positive, Learn Together and most importantly, show Spartan PRIDE in all you do. Have a great evening!
