Happy Friday afternoon Spartan Families!
Here are a couple of important updates and reminders.
Welcome back Track 3 on Monday! We are looking forward to having you back with us. Track 2, have a great track out and we’ll see you on Sep’t 11!
Just a reminder to all, especially for those who haven’t experienced Salem when we are at full capacity… the next 3 weeks we will be bursting at the seams with 3 full tracks in session. This means specifically for parents that carpool is longer both in the mornings and afternoons. Please plan accordingly!
Solar Eclipse reminders:
Please talk to your students about the importance of eye safety during the eclipse on Monday. Here are a couple of resources that our teachers have put together and have been sharing in some of their classes. I thought they were worthy of sharing with you all as well!
Here are a couple of other resources: the following articles from the Washington Post, Sciencing and Scientific American explain why it can be harmful to look at the sun during a solar eclipse.
Students will be dismissing from school shortly after the peak of the solar eclipse here in Apex. It is extremely important that you remind your students that they should never look directly at the sun during this time unless they are wearing their protective glasses. Students should always double check their glasses for scratches and punctures before they put their glasses on to view the eclipse.
**We will be holding students in the building until their bus or their ride is in the bus/carpool loop if they don’t have glasses. So please understand this and prepare for this change in dismissal procedure for Monday only.
**We will not be allowing students to walk to Wake Zone on Monday as well.
If you choose to check your student out early on Monday, we will be allowing students to come down at the time you pre-coordinate with them so that we can expedite the checkout process. All absences for reasons related to the solar eclipse will be excused. We will be conducting a modified schedule that day so they will not miss any instructional time after 12:50.
Don’t forget the waiver! Here is the link, and here is the link in Spanish. We will have extra waivers in the front office if you do need to stop by and sign one on Monday. Without this waiver your child cannot go outside!!
I think that is all for now… Bring on that eclipse, we are ready!!!
Have a great weekend!
Regards,
Elaine Hofmann, Principal of Salem Middle School
