Weekly Message for August 25th
Hello Mountain Lion families. I hope everyone was able to take in some of Monday’s eclipse. It was wonderful to see the looks on all of the students’ faces when they were able to experience the event at school. A huge thank you to Mr. Hunter, the entire science department and all of the parents who helped with the Eclipse Viewing Party.
Students received progress reports in all classes today. Be
sure to ask your student for theirs.
7th and 8th grade students interested
in trying out for the Ligon/Moore Square volleyball, girls’ soccer,
cheerleading and football teams are reminded that you must have a current
physical prior to Tuesday, August 29th. Tryouts begin on Tuesday. We
will have a shuttle from Moore Square to Ligon for those trying out for a team.
Battle of the Books, FBLA and the Garden Club all meet on
Wednesday at 2:30. Be The Man meets on Thursday at 2:30. Several students will be attending a Microsoft
Job Shadowing event on Thursday. Peer Mediators will be selected from completed
applications on Monday. Training will take place on Thursday at Campbell Law
School and on Friday at Moore Square.
Do you love to conduct
science experiments? Would you like to meet NCSU scientists?
Then, this is the club for you! Sign up with Mr. Hunter by sending an e-mail to jhunter@wcpss.net to reserve a spot in the club!
NCSU School of Education will hold their first STEM Education
Day on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on NC State’s main
campus. This day is designed to engage students more deeply in STEM
activities, hands-on exhibits, and workshops. Students will experience
robotics, drones, polyhedron, and SLIME; they will learn more about designing
for 3d printers; and they will have the chance to make ice cream.
Think
of STEM Education Day as a festival and celebration for STEM Education and an
opportunity to generate interest and excitement about working in STEM fields.
