News from Principal Peckham

Good evening Martin Middle School families, this is your Principal, Lacey Peckham with this week’s Principal Voicemail.

This week we will hit the half-way point for 3rd quarter. Please expect interim reports to come home from all classes on Wednesday in book-bags.

Starting today, and through March 1st, we are conducting our annual Martin Middle School parent survey.  The Martin Middle School Improvement Team annually collects data from all stakeholders (students, staff, and parents) and uses the data to measure our effectiveness and stay abreast of how well we are meeting the needs of our community. Please take the time to complete this survey as your feedback is greatly appreciated. There will be a link on our website and sent through the PTA newsletter. Also, for the first time, we are trying to send this out via the primary parent emails provided through powerschools. Please check your email (and perhaps SPAM folder) as this email was sent out earlier today. No worries if you didn’t get it, you can still complete it using the link on our website or the PTA newsletter. Again, this survey will be open until March 1st and please take it only once.

For our 6th grade families, you may or may not have heard, Ms. Franklin will no longer be with us, as she has decided to stay home with her beautiful baby. We are in the process of hiring a new counselor, but until she starts in March, you may reach out to one of our other counselors, Ms. Clark or Mrs. Moore if you need academic, emotional or other support. Mrs. Clark with be picking up students with the last name A-L and Mrs. Moore with be the point person for students with last name M-Z.

A second reminder that PTA has started another BoxTops for Education Collection Competition. For the rest of this week, we asking you to bring in all of your unexpired Boxtops for education and put them in the red bin in the lobby. The homeroom that turns in the most boxtops wins a Bruegger’s bagel breakfast party and the student who turns in the most overall wins a $25 visa gift card. This is a great way to raise money for the school and we appreciate your thinking of us while you are shopping.

Finally, you may have heard that Wake County is in the procurement process for new high-quality resource materials for ELA 6-8 and HS Math 1,2, 3. After a rigorous vetting process they have narrowed each content down to 2 resources and will be hosting community exploration and feedback sessions this week and next. The “All Aboard Sessions” for Math will be this week from 6:30-8:00 and ELA 6-8 next week from 6:30-8:00. Locations for these perusing sessions can be found on the WCPSS website calendar.

This concludes my voicemail for this week. I hope you enjoy the last few hours of beautiful weather. We’ll see you bright and early tomorrow!
