April 4 2017
Greetings, Centennial families! We are now in the home stretch! There's still a lot of curriculum to "uncover" in the next 8 weeks, but folks here are ready for the challenge.
March was a busy month at our school. We participated in a variety of drills during the month to keep us all aware of safety issues and policy regulations. The drills we had included tornado, required by the state; fire drill, required by county and state; lockdown, required annually by the county, and a canine drill requested by me to ensure continued safety. Nothing but a bag of moldy food was found during the canine drill! As students move to high school, the canine drills will become more frequent.
I'm excited about Welcome to the Pack night this Thursday, April 6. We have many new families eager to begin their Centennial experience. I'm also looking forward to the PTSA Spring Fever extravaganza on April 20!
At yesterday's staff meeting, we took a few minutes to reflect on all the extraordinary positive things that have happened at Centennial this year. Here are a few of the examples:
Magnet Award for School of Excellence
Positive Behavior Support Green Ribbon Winner
Phoebe Apperson Hearst National PTSA Award
Pieces of Gold Participant (Dance Ensemble) ; Gifts of Gold (artwork)
Select Choir singing National Anthem at Durham Bulls game on April 12
Forming of FBLA
Business Alliance partnerships formed
Walkthrough implementation begun to focus on positive teaching practices
National Geography Bee finalist
Girls on the Run
More sports participants at Dillard Drive Middle
And the list goes on! It has taken all of us working together and supporting each other to make wonderful learning experiences, in addition to excellent classroom teaching, occur. Thanks to the staff for their continued commitment to excellence!
I look forward to the end of the year activities also.
Kind regards to all!
