Degrees and Certifications:
Ms. Jill McGowan
Mrs. McGowan was born and raised in New Jersey. She attended Villanova University where she graduated with a Comprehensive Science and Math degree. She later completed her Master's in Education online at Walden University.
Mrs. McGowan began her teaching career as a middle school Science teacher in the inner city of Chicago through a volunteer organization called Inner City Teaching Corps (ICTC). She later moved to Norfolk, Virginia where she was an Elementary Science Specialist, 5th Grade teacher, and Middle School Science Department Head.
Mrs. McGowan moved to Raleigh in 2006, and taught 5th grade for three years before staying home to care for her children. She is happily married, and has two wonderful kids and a dog. She is excited to be back in the classroom again teaching a love and joy for hands-on Science, and incorporating lots of #Vitamin N into her lessons.
Mrs. McGowan loves to cook, bake, read, hike and play with her kids. She enjoys visiting the beach, staying warm by a fire, dancing in the rain with her kids, and cheering for Villanova Basketball.
Why I am excited about our thee, Environmental and Community Connections...
Bringing children out into nature to explore, learn, discover and simply enjoy being outside. There is real, research based evidence that nature has a positive effect on everyone and I look forward to seeing this enfold here at MECME.
Why I choose to teach at Millbrook...
To encourage a love for all things Science and to see firsthand the benefits of being connected to nature.
