Security Department
Mission: The Security Department will provide quality security services to ensure a safe and secure environment for the Wake County Public School System.
WCPSS Security staff help to ensure the safety of students and staff in all schools and administrative offices across the county. Working in conjunction with school administration, local law enforcement, and other emergency personnel, the Security Department has implemented a comprehensive system of security measures designed to make WCPSS campuses safe places to learn.
The Security Department is responsible for:
- Implementing system-wide security measures
- Coordinating the development of emergency response plans and training all employees on their use
- Providing advice on school policies
- Assisting school administrators with student investigations
- Conducting preliminary investigations for all crimes committed on school property
- Determining whether threats of violence are spontaneous utterances by angry students or if they are substantive threats
- Coordinating with law enforcement when students commit criminal acts
- Conducting physical security checks
- Providing security for major school events such as graduation, public hearings and board meetings
