School Volunteers

We welcome volunteers from the community to work with our students through classroom speakers, job shadowing, career fairs, and mentoring. Volunteer procedures and guidelines are in place to make sure the volunteer's work is productive.

WCPSS School Board Policy 5422 - School Volunteers

Be sure to read and follow the latest School Board Policy about school volunteers. Also read the implementation of the board policy contained in the Regulations and Procedures (R&P) document.

Background Checks

Background checks are not usually required for volunteers working with our students in work-based learning experiences. This includes job shadowing, short-term work experiences, co-operative learning, internships, and apprenticeships. A Background check is always required when a volunteer drives a student in a vehicle.

Guest Speaker Policy

Request For Prior Approval For Guest Speaker (PDF). contains the approval form and the guidelines to ensure appropriate guest speakers in our classrooms.

This policy applies only to guest speakers who are speaking to a captive audience in a classroom, auditorium, or other gathering where the student does not have a choice to not participate.

Manned information tables at a career fair or similar activity where the students are free to listen or not, are not included in this policy.
