Career Development Coordinator (CDC)

We are fortunate in Wake County to have a Career Development Coordinator (CDC) at each of our middle and high schools.

The Career Development Coordinator (CDC) is responsible for coordinating career development services for all students and for establishing and maintaining business/education partnerships that support the school system's mission and individual school's School Improvement Plans. The CDC serves all students by building linkages with the school staff, business/industry representatives, postsecondary educational personnel, parents, and civic and community organizations. Working collaboratively with the school staff and coordinating the support services of the business community, the CDC is to facilitate student transition from school to career.

CDC Job Descriptions

The Wake County CDC job description differs slightly between the middle school and high school.

NC DPI (North Carolina Department of Public Instruction) has their own CDC Job Description, which was revised in July 2007. (PDF 56 KB)

Becoming a CDC

NC DPI (North Carolina Department of Public Instruction) sets the requirements for becoming a CDC. Information on this web page should be used as a guide. Check with NC DPI for the latest "official" requirements.

People become a CDC with a background in either school counseling or CTE teaching. The following document lists the requirements for each pathway.

Provisional Licensing Requirements for CDC (PDF 24 KB).

This page is from this larger document: Provisional Licensing Requirements (PDF 572 KB) for all CTE areas.

The requirements listed under "Degree" must be met in order to be hired as a CDC with a provisional license. The requirements listed under "Work Experience" and "License Requirements" can usually be completed after being hired as a CDC in order to qualify for a continuing CDC license.
