Request for Leave
This process is for CTE teachers, SPCs, and CACs who are away from their classroom at a meeting, conference or field trip and need a substitute teacher.
NOTE: If a substitute teacher is not needed, then do not follow this procedure. This procedure is only for using CTE or STC funds to pay for a substitute teacher.
This CTE Leave Form process is slightly different from the process that other curricular areas might follow. The end result is the same however.
- Teacher completes the CTE Prior Approval Form 30 days prior to the leave date. Each teacher requesting a substitute must complete a separate Prior Approval form.
- The teacher completes a WCPSS Leave Form (Word 76 KB)
- Name is your name. This name must match the name on the Prior Approval Form.
- Position/Grade/Subject would be something like "CTE Teacher" or "CAC."
- Employee Number. You do not need to include your employee number or social security number on the copy that is sent to CTE/STC.
- School/Department is the name of your school.
NOTE: Professional leave is now listed as OTHER.
- Check the box next to OTHER.
- On the line to the right of OTHER, enter:
- Educational - if the leave is for a workshop, conference, staff development, or field trip.
- Professional - if the leave is for a professional association meeting or working on a state committee.
- Enter the number of days in Total Working Days Requested.
- Enter the date or dates in Dates Requested.
- Check the Yes box to indicate a sub is needed.
- NOTE: If a sub is not needed, then do not submit a Leave Form with your Prior Approval form.
- Do not put anything in the Budget Code line.
- Print two copies of the Request for Leave form.
- The original, signed copy of the Leave Form goes directly to your school's lead secretary.
- The original Prior Approval Form (the paper that the principal actually signed) and the copy of the Leave Form, which does not need any signatures or employee number, are sent together to the CTE office 30 days prior to the event date.
- Submit some form of documentation of the event (flier, letter, agenda, etc.) verifying the event and its date and location.
- The forms go through the Central Office approval process.
- The CTE secretary sends the approved Prior Approval Form to the teacher. This is the teacher's guarantee that the substitute teacher will get paid.
- The CTE secretary sends the approved Leave Form (with signatures and budget code) to the school's lead secretary.
