Job Description
Title: Career Development Coordinator - Middle School
Reports To: Middle School Principal
Job Goal: The Middle School Career Development Coordinator (CDC) is responsible for coordinating career development services for all students in grades 6-8 and for establishing and maintaining business/education partnerships that support the school system's mission and individual school's School Improvement Plans. The CDC serves all students by building linkages with the school staff, business/industry representatives, parents, and civic and community organizations.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Career Development Services
- Collaborate with school staff in creating and implementing a school-wide Career Development Program that is coordinated with the school improvement plan
- Assist school counselors in creating a career development plan for each student, which is focused and adaptable to change
- Coordinate career planning activities in classroom, small group, and/or individual sessions
- Coordinate career planning activities with the school's Student Services plan
- Work with the school's Student Services Team to coordinate the administration of career assessment instruments to help students identify individual interests, abilities, aptitudes, values, and skills
- Assist in the integration of the WCPSS character education traits into the Career Development Program
- Assist students in articulating their strengths and attributes in relation to career opportunities
- Coordinate curriculum integration of CTE and core-academic studies
- Encourage the relevance of CTE and core-academic courses
- Utilize technology and online services for implementing the Career Development Program
- Participate in professional organizations, meetings, and conferences at local, state, and national levels as appropriate and feasible for professional growth and development
- Stay informed about and have input to the school's leadership team
- Meet regularly with CTE Department at school
- Business/Education Partnership Development
- Establish partnerships with businesses through a school business alliance that support the school's School Improvement Plan, the system's mission and goals, and the Career Development Program
- Coordinate the business alliance program for the school
- Coordinate school staff requests for partnership support services
- Facilitate career exploration through job shadowing programs
- Engage in professional growth and development opportunities to keep abreast of current and emerging careers in a rapidly changing workplace
- Affiliate with professional organizations
- Network with business, industry, post-secondary institutions, PTSA, military, public agencies, and civic and community organizations
- Attend school's business alliance meetings and regional business alliance meetings
- Attend business/education partnership meetings/conferences at the state and national level as appropriate and feasible
- Other
- Serve as VoCATS test administrator for the CTE Department
- Meet regularly with Central Office staff
