Title: High School Department Chair for Career and Technical Education

Reports To: High School Principal

Job Goal: To ensure that process and procedures are in place to facilitate instruction and to implement policies set forth by the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Director.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Plan, coordinate, and monitor all CTE programs to ensure that they meet or exceed Local Education Agency (LEA), State, and National requirements.
  2. Promote the CTE program to include publicity in the form of posters, flyers, brochures, announcements, activities of counselors, open house participation, new student orientations, and parent meetings.
  3. Promote effective CTE Student Organizations with shared responsibility among teachers.
  4. Attend regularly scheduled WCPSS CTE Department Chair meetings and disseminate information to CTE teachers and administrators, as appropriate, in the school.
  5. Meet or exceed all deadlines for information requested from the CTE Office. These should include annual budget projections by program area for travel, supplies, equipment, and supplemental textbooks that are not on the state-adopted list.
  6. Ensure that purchase requests (including blanket purchase orders), direct payment requests, and green sheets are completed and processed correctly and in a timely manner so that all bills can be paid by the Accounting Department.
  7. Publish the CTE department meeting schedule at the beginning of the year. A copy of the agenda with notes can become the minutes for any member missing the meeting. Be aware of items that can be shared via CTE Newsletter.
  8. Ensure that each CTE teacher is aware of the current blueprint, curriculum guide, pacing guide, and classroom item bank for each course taught. Encourage the use of VoCATS interim assessments of competencies all year long to improve students' test results.
  9. Attend regularly scheduled school-based Department Chair meetings, and share information in CTE department meetings.
  10. Manage the CTE budget for the school and ensure that new items are delivered to the appropriate CTE teacher (after it is appropriately inventoried). Assist the receiving teacher in acquiring the services of a technician or other resource in order to place equipment or materials into service immediately.
  11. Provide support to the Career Development Coordinator (CDC) who works with the Central Office VoCATS Coordinator to ensure that VoCATS are administered in compliance with state requirements. Review results with CTE teachers when the results are returned. Distribute teacher copies of VoCATS results when received at the school from the VoCATS Coordinator.
  12. Ensure that the database maintained by the Special Populations Coordinator (SPC) or designee identifies all special population students who are enrolled in CTE courses and that all students are being appropriately served.
  13. Provide support to the SPC or designee who works with the School's NCWISE Data Manager to ensure that VEIS data is reported timely and accurately. Attend the meetings conducted by the Senior Administrator who coordinates VEIS to receive the instructions and to ensure that the school's data is ready for transmission.
  14. Encourage teacher participation and leadership in local, state, regional, and national professional organizations and meetings.
  15. Ensure that all CTE teachers are knowledgeable of the WCPSS CTE website, which contains information related to CTE curriculum, policies, and procedures.
