CTE Instructional Management System: Updating The Classroom Itembank

Prior To Installation

  1. If tests exist in the curriculum:
    1. Export any tests you might want to reuse.
      1. Click on the Test tab.
      2. Select Test|Export tests.
      3. Select the test you wish to export. Press Export Test.
      4. Turn on the radio button beside the format in which you plan to reuse tests (probably Windows). Press OK.
      5. Browse to the folder where you want the test to be saved. Press Save.
    2. Delete tests.
      1. Select Classes|Assign and Manage Tests.
      2. Click on the test you wish to delete. Press Delete.
      3. When you have deleted all the tests in the curriculum, press Close.
  2. If teacher-made items exist
    1. Create a group of the teacher items
      1. Click on the Development tab.
      2. Select bank.
      3. Select Search|New Search.
      4. Click on the Advanced tab.
      5. Click on the down arrow beside "Created By" to select Teacher.
      6. Click on OK.
    2. Click on Search|Manage Saved Searches. Name the search.
    3. Export the search group.
      1. Open Curriculum Tools (Go to Start, Programs, Classroom Manager, and select Curriculum Tools).
      2. Select File|Extract Curriculum.
      3. Click on the top down arrow to select a curriculum. Click on the second down arrow to select the search group you created above.
      4. Type in an eight-character name for the search group (perhaps course number+tchr).
      5. Press OK.
  3. Delete curriculum structure (Go to Start, Programs, Classroom Manager, and select Curriculum Tools).
    1. Open Curriculum Tools.
    2. Select File|Delete Structure.
    3. Select the curriculum you wish to delete.
    4. Press OK.
  4. Delete unlinked items.
    1. Open the bank in CMS95. Click on the Development tab.
    2. Select Development|Manage Unlinked Items.
    3. With the filter on SYSTEM and the type on TEST ITEMS, click on Delete All. Press OK.
    4. Change the type to ATTACHMENTS and click on Delete All again. Press OK.

How To Install Itembanks

  1. Prior to installation:
    1. Create a temporary folder on your C-drive named Install_banks.
  2. Prepare bank.
    1. Open Windows Explorer. Copy the three files for the bank (xxx.blb, xxx.fdb, and xxx.fdi) into the temporary folder. Right click on each file and click on the check beside READ-ONLY to turn off the READ-ONLY status. If there is a check beside ARCHIVE, click on the check to turn the ARCHIVE status off.
  3. Install bank.
    1. Open Curriculum Tools.
    2. Select File|Install Curriculum.
    3. Browse to the temporary folder you created and click on the curriculum you wish to install. The file name will be the "name of the itembank" with an .fdi extenstion.
    4. Press Open.
    5. Press OK.
  4. Remove unneeded files.
    1. When installation is complete, open Windows Explorer. Go to the temporary folder and delete the files you copied from the CD.
